1. Mum was saving a seat for my brother when a man approached the aisle and asked if he could sit there. He said that he would have to leave in 10 minutes so he only wanted a seat for a short while. He and Mum ended up talking for most of that time. By the time he left, they had exchanged contact details and he had given her a little audio player no bigger than the palm of your hand.
When we listened, there was an English sermon being preached, and translated into Mandarin. The translation was very professional and accurate. The organisation that the man worked for, he said, had 400 such sets waiting to somehow be delivered to a Mandarin-speaking country (guess which. I'm being careful in my wording here as this work could be sensitive). However, his organisation had no contacts to do so.
Later during the week, Mum was finally able to meet up with a friend. Both of them had tried to meet up several times without success until after the incident I related above. It turned out this friend knew someone who had just returned from a stint in that country. Today, Mum was able to link both parties up! How amazing is that? It's so exciting to be part of something important - who knows what history Mum is making in just doing that!
2. On that same day, while my Mum was talking to this man with the 400 audio sets and no where to take them, my brother (whose seat was being occupied by that man) was sitting on the other end of the auditorium talking a lady who works among orphans in China.
This lady struck up a conversation with my brother because his appearance reminded her of one of those orphans. She gave my brother her contact details, and Mum was able to find out more about that organisation today.
The organisation is called Chinese Orphans Assistance Team. They have been recognised by both the Australian government, as well as the Chinese government. Any donations made to their wonderful work is tax deductible. It is being run by an Australian widow in Queensland. She's done an awesome job!
In perusing the website, it is evident that the work is not only important but worthy of some more support. They are doing an awesome job rescuing disabled children who were abandoned and raising them with love, nutrition, education and the medical care they need. They also look after healthy orphans, but a lot of their work is high-dependency care for children with major health issues.
There are plenty of children who need sponsors. Supporters can also sponsor teachers and carers for the children. Sponsorship pays for training as well as employment.
I am looking to sponsor one carer and one child. Who's joining me?
